Exposed by Kimberly Marcus6/28/2023 The location is wonderful and the city is just big enough to have a lot to do but small enough to not worry about traffic or high cost of living. We are able to do big cases early on in residency and have plenty of traumas and transplants. I chose UC for residency for the clinical experience, the wonderful location, and the people in the program. I gravitated towards the instant feedback and being able to work with my hands to manipulate physiology. Upon rotating through anesthesia, I was shocked to see effects in real time. Whenever I rotated through, it was frustrating to wait weeks or months to see the effects of changes you had made in the office. I initially thought of doing family medicine when I entered medical school. Rachel has a few choice answers for exactly where Mary can go, but as these expectant moms do battle, hostilities erupt into a drama unlike anything Zion Hill has ever seen! Something has to give, and while Rachel contemplates everything from transferring her lifelong church membership to packing up and leaving Lester, she knows deep down God is calling her to forgiveness. After all, where can an unmarried mother-to-be go but to the Lord? Her baby may or may not be Lester’s, but Mary’s doing all she can to win sympathy and turn her fellow churchgoers against Rachel-even threatening to blackmail Pastor Adams with a paternity agreement. The spirited Houston congregation featured in ReShonda Tate Billingsley’s Let the Church Say Amen and Everybody Say Amen has a major scandal unfolding-and, as always, the outspoken Rachel Jackson Adams is at the heart of the drama.Īs the First Lady of Zion Hill, Rachel is not only Pastor Lester Adams’ wife-she’s currently his eight-months-pregnant wife, who’s going toe-to-toe with Lester’s onetime mistress, congregant Mary Richardson, who is also pregnant. Mooncakes by Wendy Xu and Suzanne Walker ( 9781549303043) The queen of ieflaria6/28/2023 I really liked the way the characters developed in this one. In this instalment, Princess Esofi has to figure out which is scarier, the fire-breathing monsters or her visiting mother. The Queen of Rhodia takes the action back to the settings and characters from the first book, The Queen of Ieflaria, adds in the characters from Daughter of the Sun and send them off on a grand adventure to negotiate with dragons. I love this fantasy series! Calvin somehow manages to balance really high-stakes international politics with a really low-key domestic feel. She has heard about Carinth and believes that she deserves custody of him due to her greater devotion to Talcia, Goddess of Magic.Īdale and Esofi have no intention of giving up their son, but Gaelle is impossible to reason with-and there’s no telling what lengths she’ll go to in order to get what she wants.Ī copy of this was provided free of charge from the publisher in return for an honest review. Their peace is shattered when Esofi’s mother, Queen Gaelle of Rhodia, arrives in Birsgen. The princesses have a peaceful life together, preparing to become co-regents and raising their baby dragon, Carinth. It has been sixteen months since Princess Esofi arrived in Ieflaria, and eight since her marriage to Crown Princess Adale. In the second section, he lays out his theory that the human brain is organized to respond to several distinct types of moral violations, much like a tongue is organized to respond to different sorts of foods. In the first section, Haidt demonstrates that people's beliefs are driven primarily by intuition, with reason operating mostly to justify beliefs that are intuitively obvious. The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion is a 2012 social psychology book by Jonathan Haidt, in which the author describes human morality as it relates to politics and religion. A simple graphic depicting survey data from the United States intended to support moral foundations theory Sarah dunant borgias6/28/2023 Frequent pleasure comes from Dunant’s sly employment of lines that now read counterintuitively, as when Lucrezia thinks of “The Pope. Readers in an era when the papacy has come to stand for celibacy and pacifism can only goggle at the spectacle of Pope Alexander VI, born Rodrigo Borgia, who is running almost as many wars and whores as he has children. In other words, the other guy is being a bit, well, Machiavellian.īut, while offering new perspectives on two long-defamed names, Dunant is unsparing in her presentation of the fabled derangement of the period. What worries Niccolò is that Cesare is “a man who never does what anyone expects”. Continuing a reclamation that began in the previous novel, Blood and Beauty, this Lucrezia has “sweetness and modesty”, and is disarmingly nervous as we observe her on the eve of her third marriage, by which she will become Duchess of Ferrara.Īs for Niccolò, those who have read The Prince – or observed the various politicians or football managers influenced by that treatise on statecraft – may be surprised to find its author panicking during a meeting with Cesare Borgia, Lucrezia’s brother, who, in the main action of the novel, grabs more kings and bishops for the Borgias on “the chessboard of central Italy”. Those reputations, though, are skilfully managed by Dunant in the fifth of her sequence of novels set in Italy during the Renaissance.
