I read it thanks to the recommendation of a friend as a book in keeping with the spirit of L. I wish there were more reviews of this wonderful book here but I gather that it was never published in the US so the scarcity of reviews might be down to the fact this book isn't widely known. But, I wanted to get down a few (inadequate) words before I get too busy. It's "one of those books" about which I struggle to write an adequate review because I loved it so much, in so many ineffable ways. I loved this book about ten-year-old Beatrice and her family during the Great Depression in Toronto, Canada in 1932-33. ![]() The lightning thief series6/23/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() "She is a brilliant actor who can break our hearts, make us laugh, and have us cheering for her all in the same scene," Riordan wrote in a post announcing Jeffries' casting. "The neat thing about revisiting this tale, almost 20 years after I first wrote it, is that I get to address some of the questions that fans have asked me over the years: 'What does this mean?' 'Why does this happen the way it does?' 'What would happen if -?' It's been really satisfying and fun," he added. ![]() The eyes of darkness dean koontz amazon6/23/2023 ![]() ![]() The fact-checking website also notes that while the 2008 publication of the book mentions Wuhan, other iterations of the book used a different name for the fictional weapon. For the supernatural aspect, Wells read selections from the genre to confirm the originality of his idea. A mortician later complimented Wells on the accuracy of his depiction of the mortuary. Wells was unable to observe the process in person, but found plenty of information about embalming on his own. ![]() He used this knowledge, combining it with extensive research on mortuaries and the embalming process, to write the novel. Chris Van’s creation of the relationship the two young brothers could easily be related to young readers who may have similar relationships with their family members. I really enjoyed this book because Chris Van’s ability to push the reader to think in another perspective and plot. The theme of the story is you shouldn’t take your loved ones for granted. ![]() |
